Morris, Jan. 14---Mrs. Laura L. Stickles of Hargrave
street, widow of Charles Stickles, died about 10 o'clock Tuesday
morning at the Parshall hospital in Oneonta, where she had been a
patient for four days. She had been in ill health for many years and
confined to bed for several weeks.
Laura (McIntyre) Stickles, the older of the two
children of Ansel and Ellen (Cotton) McIntyre, was born March 17,
1870, in Norwich. When but a small child, the family came to Morris
to reside and here she spent practically her whole life.
January 26, 1887, she married Charles Stickles of
Morris, for many years sexton of Hillington cemetery. Mr. Stickles
died October 23, 1912. To them were born two children, Miss Ella
Stickles, who lives at home and had faithfully cared for her mother
during her long period of invalidism, and Wayne Stickles of
Binghamton.
When a young woman, Mrs. Stickles united with the
Christian church in Otego. Later she tranferred her membership to
the Morris Methodist church and attended its services as long as her
health permitted. Her chief interest, however, was in her home,
where as a devoted mother and a kind and obliging neighbor, she will
be greatly missed by a large circle of friends.
Immediate surviving relatives include the daughter,
Miss Ella Stickles of Morris; the son, Wayne Stickles of Binghamton;
a grandson, Donald Stickles of Binghamton; a great aunt, Mrs. Mary
Alger of Edmeston, and numerous cousins, to all of whom sincere
sympathy will be extended.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Dr. Charles E.
Vermilya of the Methodist church, will be held at Sloan's Funeral
home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the
family plot in the new part of Hillington cemetery.
