Dorothy A. Payton
MORRIS — Dorothy A. Payton, 83, of Morris, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the Chase Nursing Nome in New Berlin with her husband at her bedside.
She was born in Columbus, the daughter of Jay Boyce Amsden and Hazel Orilla (Todd) Amsden.
She was a graduate of the New Berlin Central School and she then received her teaching certificate from the Oneonta Normal School and her bachelor of arts degree from the State University College at Oneonta.
Dorothy married Dr. Jerome Payton on Feb. 19, 1944, at Piermont.
She was an educator and had taught at Leonardsville Central School, New Berlin Central School and Morris Central School.
She was active in the Zion Episcopal Church of Morris, its affairs and functions and also was a longtime member of the Butternuts Valley Arts and Crafts Center as well as the Butternuts Valley Garden Club.
In 1976, Dorothy and Doris Whitman compiled and published "Souvenir of Morris" a collection of vintage postcards, photographs and historical commentary for the Morris Historical Society.
Dorothy was an avid and consummate bridge player and also enjoyed golfing.
She prided herself on love of family and friends. At festive family dinners she would invariably admonish everyone to "eat slowly" so as to prolong the joy of the gatherings.
Dorothy Payton graduated life "Summa Cum Laude."
She leaves her husband, Dr. Jerome Payton, veterinarian of Morris; a son, Dr. David A. Payton of Schenectady; two daughters, Nancy Anne Payton of Naples, Fla., and Dr. Alice Jayne Payton of Cranbury, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Noel Ross Payton of Schenectady; a granddaughter, Rebecca Anne Payton of Albany; a sister-in-law, Kate Amsden of Fort Myers, Fla.; a nephew, Philip Amsden of California; two cousins, Mary Louise Willard Emmick of Pennsylvania, Florida and New York, and Marguerite Willard Dardis of Florida.
A brother, John T. Amsden, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Committal service and burial will follow in the Hillington Cemetery, Morris.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to contribute to the Alzheimer's Association, Leatherstocking Branch, P.O. Box 1364, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, to the Chase Nursing Home, 1 Terrace Heights, New Berlin, N.Y., or to the Zion Episcopal Church, Morris, N.Y. 13808 or the charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Roseboom, Marion (Emerson) 1917-2000 Morris NY Obituary

Marion Roseboom

MORRIS — Marion E. Roseboom, 83, of Maple Grove, Morris, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born March 7, 1917, in Morris, the daughter of William George Emerson and Beatrice M. (Andrews) Emerson.
She was married to Leon Miles Roseboom on Aug. 9, 1934, in West Oneonta. He passed away several years ago.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Sand Hill Methodist Church, the Sand Hill Senior Citizens Club and the Homemaker Club of Sand Hill.
She is survived by three children, Wayne Roseboom of Oneonta, Morgan Roseboom and his wife, Diana, of Oneonta, and Bonnie Hilliker of Oneonta; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by two sisters-in- law, Edna Emerson of Sidney and Alma Strong of Westford.
She was predeceased by a brother, Maynard Emerson, and a brother-in-law, James Strong.
It was Marion's request that no funeral services or calling hours be held.
Interment of her cremains will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.
Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
