Howard Williams
NEW LISBON — Howard G. Williams, 87, of New Lisbon, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born July 11, 1913, in Kent, the son of John H. and Bonnie Belle (Whitlock) Williams.
He was married to Mabel Booth in Carmel some 68 years ago.
He had been a resident of New Lisbon for the past 25 years and had formerly lived in Stormville and Peeksville.
Before his retirement he had been the park superintendent at the FDR State Park in Peeksville.
He served his country during World War II in the United States Army serving in France and earning the European Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
He was a member of the V.F.W. of Oneonta.
Howard is survived by his wife, Mabel K. Williams; a son, John H. Williams of Cold Spring; a sister, Hazel Williams Lopez of Spring Hill, Fla.; three brothers, Joseph Williams of New Milford, Conn., James Williams of Bedford and Neal Williams of New Lisbon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund, pastor of the Morris Baptist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours and the family requests no flowers due to health reasons.
Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

MORRIS — Olga Johnson Wing, 100, formerly of Morris, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Valley Health Services Facility in Herkimer.
She was born June 7, 1899, in Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Christine (Larson) Johnson.
She was married to Fayette Wing on Nov. 5, 1918. He died in 1969.
She was well-known in the Butternut Valley as a child-care provider for more than 20 years. She was a longtime member of the Morris Baptist Church and the Grange.
Olga is survived by her daughter, Iona Mallinson of Sun City, Calif.; and her three sons, Fayette Wing Jr. of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Donald Wing of Morris and Robert Wing of Morris; and several grand, great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Elna Reed.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at 11 a.m., at the Wing Family plot in Hillington Cemetery in Morris with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

BURLINGTON GREEN — Daniel Yurenka, 87, of Burlington Green, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Feb. 4, 1912, in Little Falls, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Cizmar) Yurenka.
He married Lynetta F. VanWarner on May 7, 1938, in Garrattsville. She predeceased him on Nov. 27, 1997.
Daniel owned and operated his dairy farm in the town of Burlington, until his retirement. He was the director of the South New Berlin Milk Plant, a member of the Fly Creek Milk Plant, the Farmers Union, NFO, and was especially interested in following politics.
In his younger years he designed the logo for the Little Falls High School. During the 1930's and 1940's he played in the Burlington Flats Marching Band, and was also an avid trumpet player in a jazz band.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Judith Nathan and special friend, Burt McReynolds, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Daniel Rexford and Faith Yurenka of Garrattsville; his grandchildren, Corbin Nathan and his wife, Susan, of Washington, D.C., Brandon Nathan of Los Angeles, Calif., Ann A. Yurenka of Vernon and Steve Yurenka of Garrattsville; his great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ashley Eldred; and a special nephew, Rudy Neuman.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Neuman and Ann O'Neil.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the spring at the Butternut Valley Brick School House Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel's memory to either the Garrattsville Emergency Squad or to Woodside Hall, Cooperstown.
Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

I didn't hear his jovial call

Today at break of dawn;

He didn't wish “Good mornin: to

My dad across the lawn.

I didn't see him in the yard

Nor hear him at our door

To bring the morning paper from

the office. Never more.

They say I'll never see him leave again

That cozy home next door

To work an hour at gardening,

Or linger in the store.

For a word about the weather; to

Discuss late politics,

Or just to chat with neighbors.

How he'd chuckle at the tricks.

That a favorite dog would play with him.

Our Don had a beaten path

Straight across his cherished garden, yet

Don never stirred his wrath.

“Well, I guess that's right,” he used to say

To many and many a thing;

And they say I'll never hear it; ne'er

Again his voice will ring

On a clear and frosty morning, or

Above a roaring storm,

Or when summer days are sultry, or

When spring's cool days grow warm.

He has gone “to be with Mary”, where

I know he longed to be;

On the 1920 Census there was a George W. Wood, 59, and his wife, Mary, living
in Burlington, Otsego County, NY.  He was born in England and was a farmer.  In 1935, he would have been 74 years old.

Baker, Dr. Steffie Pullis 1912-1999 Hartwick NY Obituary

Steffie Pullis Baker

HARTWICK — Dr. Steffie Pullis Baker, 86, of South Street, Hartwick, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 1999, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was born on June 9, 1912, in Fuerth, Bovaria, in Southern Germany, a daughter of Simon and Lucy (Mailaender) Buchenbacher. She married Francis Edward Pullis on Nov. 24, 1969, in Cooperstown.
Dr. Baker was raised in Germany and studied medicine for three semesters in Munich during 1932 and 1933. After five years of medical study, done in Italian, at the University of San Marco in Florence, Italy, she graduated in 1938. She then worked in Italian hospitals before leaving for Bolivia, South America. Following about a year of working in a private clinic, learning and speaking Spanish, she took a position as a physician working for the Bolivian government to combat tropical and other infectious diseases of the country. During that time she traveled by mule under the most primitive conditions throughout the mountains and jungles of Bolivia.
On Dec. 23, 1945, Dr. Baker and her mother arrived in New York City, where she interned at Bronx Hospital for one year and then at Flushing Hospital for 10 months. She received her license from the University of the State of New York to practice medicine and surgery on June 26, 1947.
Dr. Baker moved to Hartwick in 1948, and established her own private medical practice, renting office and living space in what is now the American Legion building on Main Street.
In January of 1950, she moved her home and office to South Street, where she treated thousands of patients and delivered hundreds of babies, many of whom were delivered at home.
On October 28, 1978, Dr. Baker was honored by her community with a reception given by the Hartwick Business Association marking her 30 years of dedication to her profession and community and for her staying power. She retired in the fall of 1988.
Dr. Baker enjoyed her friends and the country as well as picking mushrooms, photography, riding her bicycle, traveling and skiing. This country doctor will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Fran of Oneonta; one brother and sister-in-law, Hans and Karen Baker of Bayport, Long Island; and one niece, Carol Ann Baker of Port Townsend, Wash.
Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. when Dr. Baker's family will be in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to a local charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

ARCADIA, Fla. — Lulu A. Bartz, 98, of Arcadia, Fla., and formerly of Unadilla and Walton, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla.
She was born Nov. 5, 1901, in Tacoma, the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Youngs) Rutenber.
She was married to the Rev. William E. Bartz, who predeceased her in 1990.
She was a retired elementary school teacher and assistant superintendent of the Wyoming Conference Children's Home in Hillcrest.
Mrs. Bartz was a member of the Unadilla United Methodist Church and the New York State Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Dorothy Bartz of Tyler, Texas, and Richard and Margaret Bartz of Walton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and George Brown and Dorothy and Sidney Webb, all of Arcadia, Fla.; three sisters, Dorothy Downie of Otego, Evelyn Rosa of Franklin and Florence Campbell of Mount Vernon, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton, with the Rev. Dr. Miriam Hathaway, interim pastor, and assisted by the Rev. Dr. John Topolewski, senior pastor of the Vestal United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14, 1999, from 2-5 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Suite, Sarasota, Fla., or a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
