Margaret Palmer Moore
GILBERTSVILLE — Margaret P. Moore, 93, retired historian and high school teacher, died in Chambersburg, Pa., on March 17, 2002.
Margaret, known to her friends as "Peg," was a daughter of longtime Gilbertsville merchant and funeral director J. Merton Moore and his wife Helen Palmer Moore.
She was a graduate of the old Gilbertsville High School and of Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. After graduation, she returned to Gilbertsville to teach history at the high school. A few years later, she moved to Massena, where she taught history until her retirement.
After retirement, Peg spent two years traveling to many foreign countries before moving back to Gilbertsville. At that time, she became one of the organizers of an effort to have the village of Gilbertsville placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Peg was co-chairman, with Anne G. Mangold, of the Committee for Historic Preservation from 1972 to 1981 and chairman from 1981-1991. During that time, structural inventories for every property in the village were prepared, as well as inventories of each park, cemetery and bridge. There were more than 200 nominations in all. In 1983 National Register of Historic Places Certification for the entire village was received. Additional recognition for an expanded district was received several years later.
In addition to her work with the National Register Nomination process, Peg was appointed as town historian in 1984 and continued in that position until her retirement in 1991.
A life member of the Gilbertsville Free Library, Peg served as a trustee for 10 years and as secretary for some years. She was appointed as the first archivist of the Local History Collection at the library and held that position until her retirement in 1991.
Peg was a life member of the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville. When she returned to Gilbertsville in 1972, she became an active member of the Women's Association of the church.
She is survived by her brother, James M. Moore Jr., of Fredericksburg, Va. and nieces and nephews, Dean M. Veres of Endicott, Margaret B. Boettger of El Sobrante, Calif., Cynthia Adair of Oneonta, Betsy B. Wright of Goochland, Va., Stephen D. Moore of Richmond, Va., Dr. James Moore III of Alexandria, Va., Janet M. Herl of Fredericksburg, Va., Marita M. Holt of Haddonfield, N.J., and Alice M. Parker of Stafford, Va.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22. Following the service, friends are invited to join family members for coffee at the undercroft of the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville.

Theresa Mae Rudnitski
GILBERTSVILLE — Theresa Mae Rudnitski, 92, formerly of Gilbertsville, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford.
She was born on May 16, 1909, in Unadilla, the daughter of Fred and Lucy (Daniels) Musson.
She married Albert F. Rudnitski in Gilbertsville on March 16, 1928. He died March 19, 1988.
They operated the "Little Grocery" in Gilbertsville for more than 20 years and retired in 1969.
She was a lifelong area resident and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville.
Theresa is survived by her two sons, Donald Rudnitski of New Paltz and Gerald Rudnitski of Chenango Forks; her sister, Louise Richards of Morris; her brother, Albert Musson of Gilbertsville; and several grand and great-children.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Richard and James Musson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour before the service time.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
It was Theresa's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville, in her memory.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
