Poem "To George W. Wood" Printed in 1935

Poem “To George W. Wood”. Printed in 1935

TO GEORGE W. WOOD

I didn't hear his jovial call
Today at break of dawn;
He didn't wish “Good mornin: to
My dad across the lawn.

I didn't see him in the yard
Nor hear him at our door
To bring the morning paper from
the office. Never more.

They say I'll never see him leave again
That cozy home next door
To work an hour at gardening,
Or linger in the store.
For a word about the weather; to
Discuss late politics,
Or just to chat with neighbors.
How he'd chuckle at the tricks.

That a favorite dog would play with him.
Our Don had a beaten path
Straight across his cherished garden, yet
Don never stirred his wrath.

“Well, I guess that's right,” he used to say
To many and many a thing;
And they say I'll never hear it; ne'er
Again his voice will ring

On a clear and frosty morning, or
Above a roaring storm,
Or when summer days are sultry, or
When spring's cool days grow warm.

He has gone “to be with Mary”, where
I know he longed to be;
Lonely George; good, princely neighbor.
But it's quite a loss to me!

Author unknown.

On the 1920 Census there was a George W. Wood, 59, and his wife, Mary, living
in Burlington, Otsego County, NY.  He was born in England and was a farmer.  In 1935, he would have been 74 years old.

In January of 1950, she moved her home and office to South Street, where she treated thousands of patients and delivered hundreds of babies, many of whom were delivered at home.
On October 28, 1978, Dr. Baker was honored by her community with a reception given by the Hartwick Business Association marking her 30 years of dedication to her profession and community and for her staying power. She retired in the fall of 1988.

Walling, Herbert M. wed to Marjorie Julia Kipp 1946

Walling, Herbert M. wed to Marjorie Julia Kipp 1946

Married September 21, 1946

WALLING—KIPP

Marjorie Julia Kipp, 55 Riverside, and Herbert M. Walling, 129 Helen St., Binghamton, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon at 4, in St. Paul's Episcopal church at Sidney. White gladioli, laurel and autumn leaves, provided the background for the rites, which were read by Rev. Rollin D. Malany.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron J. Kipp, and the bridegroom's mother is Mrs. H. M. Walling.
Richard McCLelland, Sidney, presented an organ recital of nuptial music, and accompanied Mrs. Mc Clelland who sang “Ave Maria,” and “Because.”
Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride appeared in white satin, fashioned with long sleeves ending in points at the wrists, sweetheart neckline, and modified train. Her fingertip veil was caught to a halo of orange blossoms, and she carried a shower bouquet of gardenias and sweetpeas. She also wore a strand of gold beads, belonging to a great aunt, and worn both by the bride's mother and her sister, Mrs. Charles Landers, Sidney, at their weddings.
Mrs. Landers was her sister's matron of honor and was attired in a gold satin gown styled like that worn by the bride. The same gowns were worn at the time of the marriage of the bride's sister, Mrs. Charles Landers seven years ago. A picture hat, brown accessories and bouquet of pompoms and blue delphiniums, completed her ensemble.
The flower girl was Linda Landers, niece of the bride, who was dressed in floorlength blue satin, with puffed sleeves and lace inserts. She had a matching hat, and carried a colonial nosegay of Pompoms and delphiniums.
Everett Allen, Jr., Binghamton, cousin of the bridegroom, served as best man; and Clifford Decker, Binghamton, and Charles Landers, Sidney, brother-in-law of the bride, seated the guests.
A reception for 125 followed at the home of the bride's parents. The bride's table was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake with a fanshaped bouquet of garden flowers and candles forming the background. Featuring the buffet luncheon was a variety of Swiss cookies made by Mrs. Frank Borchert, Sidney.
For receiving her guests, the bride's mother chose a gray crepe with brown accessories. Her corsage was yellow roses. The bridegroom's mother selected royal blue, with black accessories with a corsage of red roses.
When the couple return from a wedding trip, they will live in Greene. For traveling, Mrs. Walling was garbed in a dress of gray wool with gold and black accessories. An orchid formed her corsage.
A graduate of Sidney High school and Oneonta STC, the bride taught in Oxford four years. She was then graduated from Colt Memorial Babies' Hospital in Newark, N. J. For four years she has been associated with her father in his grocery store.
The bridegroom, who is a graduate of Binghamton High school, served 36 months in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters. He is employed as a salesman by the Binghamton Slag Roofing Co.
Out-of-town wedding guests were from Newark, N. J.; Burlington, Wis.; New York City; Binghamton, Olean, Dansville, Oneonta, Oxford, Callicoon, Milford, and Wyalusing, Pa.
